Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What if we don’t have a sewing machine?
All machine sewing is completed during class time. Small class sizes allow for students to
be directly monitored and assisted as necessary at the machines.
How do I purchase supplies?
For the sewing courses, McKinney WalMart locations have an adequate selection of
fabric to choose from. Fabric content and price (per yard) are listed on the top of the
bolt. A store clerk will cut and tag the fabric for you, and will also assist you in locating
other supplies.
Where can I find a bigger selection of fabrics?
Hancock’s in Plano, NW corner of Custer and Parker
Hobby Lobby in Allen, NW corner of 75 and McDermott
Joann’s in Frisco, NE corner of 121 and Preston
Quilt Asylum in McKinney, SW corner of 380 and Redbud

What if I’d rather just purchase a kit?
Let me know when you enroll in the course. I can usually provide a couple of choices for
the student to select from when they arrive for class. Please note: kits do not include a
purchased top or towel when these items are called for.
What is the difference between Sewing Coach series I and Sewing Coach
series II?
The series number indicates the time slot, not the skill level. For example, Series I occurs
on Sunday afternoons. The Sewing Coach sessions are targeted to each individual skill
level, so beginners may be enrolled alongside advanced students.
Why do I need to pre-wash the fabric?
Fabrics on the bolt have a lot of starch and sizing added to them to increase their shelf
life. These chemicals can gum up machines. Also, many fabrics will change when
washed (such as shrinking or running) and it’s best to plan and construct garments that
will look the same after they are washed.
How can I be sure my child doesn’t come home with a half finished project?
Project classes are carefully planned to accommodate varying paced students, to
ensure that all students enjoy a sense of pride and accomplishment. Students who
prefer a slower pace may select to simplify aspects of their project, or utilize some
sewing shortcuts (such as less hand sewing, more machine sewing).
Where can I find more information about the sewing parties?
Contact me via email for specifics.
Can students repeat a class if they want to make the project again?
Certainly! The classes are designed to inspire creativity and learning at multiple levels.
Students are likely to learn something new in each class they attend.
If the supply list includes a purchased item (i.e. top) can we use one we already
have?
Absolutely…if you already have buttons or trims, you can use those as well.
Can I pay by credit card?
Yes, but only via PayPal.
